Julie Taraska
Design journalist and editor, Product Placement cofounder
I can thank the Sex Pistols for my career, for it was upon winning a fellowship to study British punk that I moved to London and began writing professionally. After returning to the States, I spent a half-dozen years covering music and running my own consulting firm before segueing into design journalism. I’ve held senior editorial positions at Metropolis (where I developed the magazine’s Web site into a standalone publication) and Home (where I made green design palatable to a mass audience). Currently I am the editor of Gilt Home, the home-furnishings, design, and food arm of e-retailer Gilt Groupe; I also continue to write about architecture, interior design, products, and sustainability for Metropolis (where I'm a contributing editor), T: The New York Times Style Magazine, Wallpaper*, Details, and Fast Company, among others. In my spare time I co-run Product Placement, a blog and discussion series where designers reveal the inspirations behind an object’s design.
